Former New Mexico State defensive lineman Jared Naylor is headed to a mini-camp this weekend with the National Football League's Buffalo Bills as an undrafted free agent.
"I've been working hard,
" Naylor said. "Getting a chance to perform in front of the Bills is a great opportunity. I feel strong and I think the team likes the fact that I have a strong motor out there and just love to get after it.
"
The 6-foot-2 Naylor weighed 268 at the pro scout day held at NMSU. He'll get a shot at defensive end for the Bills.
Last year, the native of Tulsa, Okla., recorded 35 tackles and 2 1/2 tackles for a loss in 13 games. Naylor had arguably his best season as a sophomore in 2004, registering 32 tackles and three tackles for a loss in starting all 11 games.
"I'm going into the mini-camp with a positive attitude and we'll see what happens,
" Naylor said. "I'm going to play hard and just try to make as many plays as possible.
"
Naylor joins former NMSU offensive lineman Mike Martinez and former NMSU tight end Nick Cleaver in going to NFL mini-camps. Martinez will get a tryout with the Chicago Bears, while Clever will get a look from the New Orleans Saints.
"Jared has a chance to make it at the next level,
"
NMSU defensive line coach Mike Fanoga said. "He has a great work ethic, a great motor and a love for the game. All he wants is a chance to showcase what he can do. He has a good pass rush and he is good in run support. He loves to run to the ball and that's a big reason he got an invite. At the next level, they want guys who can get to the ball.
