Waverly's Walls chooses New Mexico State
After a stellar career that saw him lead his Tigers to more than 25 victories and throw for more than 5,500 yards, Trevor Walls is heading to New Mexico State.
Walls says he will go to the school after graduation and will "gray shirt" in his first year at the school, which means he will not practice with the team because they have no available scholarships.
During his senior year, Walls completed 52.4 percent of his passes for 2,002 yards, 20 touchdowns and just four interceptions - and he did most of that playing with a separated left shoulder, his non-throwing one.
Walls is an intriguing prospect for the Aggies, who are coached by former Kentucky mentor Hal Mumme. The soon-to-be Waverly grad stands 6-foot-6, weighs 215 pounds and is a pro-style, drop back passer.
The Aggies were 4-9 last season and play in the Western Athletic Conference, which features Boise State, Hawaii, Nevada and others.
NMSU almost lost their record-setting quarterback, Chase Holbrook, who toyed with going to the NFL, but decided to come back for his senior year. Walls will be groomed as a possible successor.
