Statement from NMSU Head Football Coach Hal Mumme on Recent APR
“Since my arrival at NMSU the APR score for the football team has been a priority for us. We were one of the most penalized programs in the country, losing nine scholarships my first year at NMSU. Dating back to the 2003-04 season our APR score had gone from 907 to an 885 in 2004-05, prior to my arrival. In fairness to the previous staff the APR was in its infant stages only being approved in 2004.
Since then our APR score has improved significantly, jumping 31 points from 2004-05 (885) to 2005-06 (916). Because of our overall score for 2005-06 we lost three scholarships but we able to win an appeal contingent on the program achieving a 925 or higher the following year which we did. In the 2006-07 report our team did an excellent job achieving a team score of 926. As we move forward with the APR, I feel we will have no problems reaching the bench mark of 925 for our team’s APR score if not well beyond the national average.
Academics have always been a high priority for our team and will continue to be for years to come. This spring we will graduate 18 football players and all of our players who are scheduled to graduate next year are on track to do so.”
